The confinement of Bronsted acidic 1-methyl-3-(3-sulfopropyl)-1H-imidazol-3-ium hydrosulfate ([PSMIm][HSO4]) into the channel walls of two-dimensional (2D) COFs using a one-pot self-assembly strategy was achieved by incorporating an imine-linked TPB-DMTP-COF (TPB, triphenylbenzene; DMTP, dimethoxyterephthaldehyde) as the host. An appropriate loading of [PSMIm][HSO4] is crucial for the BIL-COF hybrids to maintain proper geometry in the channel and sufficient acidic sites for the sorbitol substrate and sorbitan intermediate to enter and react. The best yield of isosorbide (97%) from sorbitol to date was obtained in the presence of BIL-COF-30 as the catalyst under optimized conditions. Besides, BIL-COF-30 can be recycled for at least five runs without activity loss.

A simple and efficient microwave-assisted protocol has been developed for the synthetic of a series of novel pyrazole-indanone hybrid analogs. The target compounds have been synthesized by the Claisen-Schmidt condensation of different 1,3-diphenyl-1H-pyrazole-4-carbaldehydes with 2,3-dihydro-1H-inden-1-one in the presence of potassium hydroxide. The compounds were characterized by IR,H-1 and(13)C NMR, and mass spectra and were found to exhibit potent antimicrobial activity in vitro.

In this study, a new series of N-(di or trimethoxyaryl)-5-arylisoxazole-3-carboxamide derivatives were synthesized and evaluated against human breast cancer cell lines including MCF-7, MDA-MB-231, and T-47D. Among the synthesized compounds, 5-(m-tolyl)-N-(3,4,5-trimethoxyphenyl)isoxazole-3-carboxamide (8f) showed significant cytotoxicity against all three cell lines comparing with etoposide as the reference drug. Also, Annexin V-FITC/propidium iodide and acridine orange/ethidium bromide staining assay were performed to validate apoptotic activity of compound 8f. The results confirmed induction of apoptosis at early stage.

Single-atom catalysts (SACs) have attracted significant attention because they exhibit unique catalytic performance due to their ideal structure. However, maintaining atomically dispersed metal under high temperature, while achieving high catalytic activity remains a formidable challenge. In this work, we stabilize single platinum atoms within sub-nanometer surface cavities in well-defined 12CaO7Al(2)O(3) (C12A7) crystals through theoretical prediction and experimental process. This approach utilizes the interaction of isolated metal anions with the positively charged surface cavities of C12A7, which allows for severe reduction conditions up to 600 degrees C. The resulting catalyst is stable and highly active toward the selective hydrogenation of nitroarenes with a much higher turnover frequency (up to 25772h(-1)) than well-studied Pt-based catalysts. The high activity and selectivity result from the formation of stable trapped single Pt atoms, which leads to heterolytic cleavage of hydrogen molecules in a reaction that involves the nitro group being selectively adsorbed on C12A7 surface. Stabilize the active metal single atoms under harsh conditions is critical for the development of single atom catalysts. Here the authors report a nanoporous crystal, 12CaO7Al(2)O(3), that can firmly stabilize Pt single atoms in its surface cavities for efficient catalytic hydrogenation of nitroarenes.

A general strategy to synthesize mesoporous and macroporous carbon and N-doped mesoporous carbon is presented. The immobilization of cobalt catalysts with dispersed subnanometer particles in mesoporous N-doped carbon matrixes is also shown. These materials were used as catalysts for the hydrogenation of nitroarenes under considerably mild conditions. The surface area and the presence of nitrogen on the supports were demonstrated to be fundamental to disperse and stabilize the active metal species, which were responsible for the outstanding performance of these materials compared to cobalt catalysts deposited on silica, alumina, or mesoporous carbon. We report an iodoarene-catalyzed enantioselective synthesis of beta,beta-difluoroalkyl bromide building blocks. The transformation involves an oxidative rearrangement of alpha-bromostyrenes, utilizing HF-pyridine as the fluoride source and m-CPBA as the stoichiometric oxidant. A catalyst decomposition pathway was identified, which, in tandem with catalyst structure-activity relationship studies, facilitated the development of an improved catalyst providing higher enantioselectivity with lower catalyst loadings. The versatility of the difluoroalkyl bromide products was demonstrated via highly enantiospecific substitution reactions with suitably reactive nucleophiles. The origins of enantioselectivity were investigated using computed interaction energies of simplified catalyst and substrate structures, providing evidence for both CH-pi and pi-pi transition state interactions as critical features.

An efficient continuous flow process for the synthesis of 5-substituted 1H-tetrazoles is described. The process involves the reaction between a polymer-supported triorganotin azide and organic nitriles. The polymer-supported organotin azide, which is in situ generated with a polystyrene-supported triorganotin alkoxide and trimethylsilylazide, is immobilized in a packed bed reactor. This approach is simple, fast (it takes from 7.5 to 15 min), and guarantees a low concentration of tin residues in the products (<5 ppm). A group of new polyimides (PIs) containing xanthene bulky groups and heterocyclic pyridine ring were synthesized by polycondensation reaction by using new symmetric and asymmetric diamines with available dianhydrides. The prepared diamines and PIs were characterized by Fourier transform infrared, elemental analysis, and proton nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy and carbon nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy. The PIs have desirable solubility in common aprotic solvents like dimethyl sulfoxide, N-methyl-2-pyrrolidone, dimethylacetamide, and pyridine as a less polar solvent. The PIs with inherent viscosities in the range of 0.51-0.72 dL/g were amorphous in nature, showed glass transition temperatures (T(g)s) of about 270-300 degrees C, and 10% weight loss at temperatures 384-443 degrees C. They showed fluorescence emission (quantum yield 7-12%) due to the presence of xanthene and pyridine groups in their structure. The prepared PIs showed tensile strength of 81-91 MPa with elongation at break of 19-23%. The antibacterial properties of the PIs against Gram negative and Gram positive bacteria and funguses were investigated. Also, a membrane of PI prepared by electrospinning method was used for the removal of different concentrations of Cr(VI) from aqueous solutions.
