The mode of asymmetric induction in an enantioselective intramolecular allylic substitution reaction catalyzed by a combination of palladium and a chiral phosphoric acid was investigated by a combined experimental and statistical modeling approach. Experiments to probe nonlinear effects, the reactivity of deuterium-labeled substrates, and control experiments revealed that nucleophilic attack to the pi-allylpalladium intermediate is the enantio-determining step, in which the chiral phosphate anion is involved in stereoinduction. Using multivariable linear regression analysis, we determined that multiple noncovalent interactions with the chiral environment of the phosphate anion are integral to enantiocontrol in the transition state. The synthetic protocol to form chiral pyrrolidines was further applied to the asymmetric construction of C-O bonds at fully substituted carbon centers in the synthesis of chiral 2,2-disubstituted benzomorpholines.

A novel nitrile-/cyano-free ionic liquid was synthesized and carbonized under two different carbonization methods in the presence of ZnCl2 as a catalyst to afford N-doped carbon materials. It was found that the carbonization condition could affect the nature and textural properties of the resulting carbon. In the following, ionic liquid-derived carbon was hybridized with naturally occurring halloysite nanotubes via two procedures, that is, hydrothermal treatment of halloysite and as-prepared carbon and carbonization of ionic liquid in the presence of halloysite. The two novel nanocomposites were then used for stabilizing Pd nanoparticles. Examining the structures and catalytic activities of the resulting catalysts for the hydrogenation of nitroarenes in aqueous media showed that the carbonization procedure and hybridization method could affect the structure and the catalytic activity of the catalysts and hydrothermal approach, in which the structure of halloysite is preserved, leading to the catalyst with superior catalytic activity.

Herein we report the scalable synthesis of Co/N-codoped porous carbon (Co/N-C) catalysts by pyrolyzing poly (Schiff base)/Co(II) complex. The strong Co(II)-binding affinity of poly(Schiff base) leads to the formation of uniformly distributed Co(0) nanoparticles, Co-N-x species, and N-C configurations, in which their catalytic contributions are confirmed and estimated by ligand-poisoning and acid-etching experiments and the Co-N-x species has been proved to be highly active for catalytic transfer hydrogenation (CTH) reaction. Consequently, the as-prepared Co-N/C-950 catalyst exhibits an ultrahigh activity for the CTH of 4-nitrophenol (4-NP) with a TOF of 226 mol(4-NP) mol(Co)(-1) min(-1) (13560 h(-1)) together with an excellent selectivity for CTH of challenging nitroarenes. Moreover, the Co(0) nanoparticles embedded in the Co-N/C-950 catalyst can be further transformed to Co4N phase by a facile nitridation reaction, yielding Co4N-N/C-950 catalyst with even higher activity for the CTH of 4-NP (TOF up to 310 mol(4-NP) mol(Co)(-1) min(-1)).

Four chiral dinuclear rare-earth metal complexes [REL1](2) (RE = Y(1), Eu(2), Nd(3), La (4)) stabilized by Trost proligand H3L1 (H3L1 = ( S,S) -2, 6-b is [2- (hydroxydiph enylmethyl)pyrrolidin-1-ylmethyl]-4-methyl-phenol) were first prepared, and all were characterized by X-ray diffraction. Complex 4 was employed as the catalyst for enantioselective hydroboration reaction of substituted ketones, and the corresponding secondary alcohols with excellent yields and high ee values were obtained using reductant HBpin. The same result was also achieved using the combination of lanthanium amides La[N(SiMe3)(2)](3) with Trost proligand H3L1 in a 1:1 molar ratio. The experimental findings and DFT calculation revealed the possible mechanism of the enantioselective hydroboration reaction and defined the origin of the enantioselectivity in the current system.

The present work aims to focus on the synthesis and spectral studies of the charge-transfer interaction between the nitro organic acceptors molecules [e.g., 2,4,6-trinitrophenol (PA), 4-nitrophenol (4-NP), 4-nitroacetophenone (4-NAP), and m-dinitrobenzene (m-DNB)] with triamterene (TM) drug donors, which have many applications in industry, biology, and chemistry. The CT complexes of PA and 4-NP are formed by the association of electrondeficient and electron-rich moieties, held together by the weak force of attraction through a hydrogen bond. These molecules have been explored through the FTIR and Raman spectroscopic techniques. The speculated 1:1 or 1:2 structures of the complexes [(TM)(PA)], [(TM)(4-NP)(2)], [(TM)(4-NAP)(2)], and [(TM)(m-DNB)(2)] determined by microanalytical and theoretical analyses shows that the interaction occurs through a H2N+-H center dot center dot center dot O-(O—-H) (O-H—-NH2) bond or by n-pi* regarding 4-NAP and m-DNB complexes. The thermogravimetric technique was utilized to determine the thermostability of the synthesized charge-transfer complexes by making comparisons to their constituents. The computational study has been carried out on the studied molecule, which has the most stable conformer using density functional theory (DFT). A comparative study of electronic and vibrational spectroscopy has been done with that of experimental results. The experimentally obtained structure was compared with an optimized structure for various parameters, such as bond length, bond angles, oscillator strength, dipole moment, and molecular electrostatic potential is predicted theoretically. The energy band gap from HOMO-to-LUMO was theoretically estimated using (B3LYP/6-311++G(d,p) level) from frontier molecular orbital energies, and the outcome data are employed to characterize the chemical structures of the synthesized complexes based on molecular properties.

The transition metal free reduction of aromatic/heteroaromatic nitro compounds to amines has been improved employing phenyl(2-quinolyl)methanol (PQM) as organocatalyst in the presence of NaBH(4)or NaCNBH(3)as stoichiometric reducing agent. The procedure is chemoselective for NO(2)group reduction with high tolerance of many functionalities. The reaction pathway strongly depends on the substituents present on the nitroarene ring. However, a careful choice of the reaction conditions allows to address the reduction process towards the corresponding anilines (isolated in 17-91 % yields). The use of substoichiometric amounts of PQM allows more sustainable processes: reaction products are easily isolated and PQM can be directly recovered at the end of the reaction and recycled.

A rhodium(III)-catalyzed intermolecular C-H amination of ketoxime and iodobenzene diacetate-enabled N-N bond formation in the synthesis of indazoles has been developed. A benign, simple, and efficient synthesis of 4-alkyl-5-methyl-1H-pyrazol-3-ols has been described in refluxing water through the four-component reaction of beta-ketoesters, hydrazine hydrate, different aldehydes, and acetophenone derivatives in the presence of nano Al2O3@Cg, as a novel nanocatalyst. The new promoter has been prepared via a straightforward procedure and characterized by fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDAX), thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), field emission scanning electron microscopy (FESEM), and inductively coupled plasma atomic emission spectroscopy (ICP-AES) techniques. Utilizing water as the reaction medium, uncomplicated operational procedure, mild reaction conditions, application of a cost-effective, nontoxic, heterogeneous, easily available nanoscale inorganic-based catalyst, wide-range of substrates usage, and recovery and reusability of nano Al2O3@Cg catalyst within 4 runs without activity loss, are some highlighted features of the reported method. Sustainable development demands an environmentally friendly and efficient method for the hydrogenation of organic molecules, including the hydrogenation of functionalized nitroarenes. In this study, a highly active and selective metal-organic framework-supported palladium catalyst was prepared for the catalytic hydrogenation of nitroarenes. High selectivity (>99%) and excellent yield (98%) of aniline were realized after 2 hours in ethanol under hydrogen (1 atm) at room temperature. The reductions were successfully carried out in the presence of a wide range of other reducible functional groups. More importantly, the catalyst was very stable without the loss of its catalytic activity after five cycles.

As the global need for drugs getting increases, the necessity of novel and effective drugs are the need of the day. Pyrazoles are one of the active molecules in novel drug discovery. The present study deals about the synthesis of precursors 4-(4-fluorophenyl)-6-isopropyl-2-(methylsulfonyl) pyrimidine-5-carbohydrazides (3a-m) from methyl- 4-(4-fluorophenyl)-6-isopropyl-2-(methyl sulfonyl) pyrimidine-5-carboxylate (2) by treating with substituted acetophenone. Further, Vilsmeier-Haack reaction of compounds 3a-m at 70 degrees C for 8-10 hrs gave novel pyrazole carbaldehyde derivatives (4a-m) in good yield. Biological properties like antioxidant, anti-breast cancer and anti-inflammatory of newly synthesized compounds (4a-m) were determined. The enzymes Cyclooxygenase-2 and Phosphoinositide-3-Kinase are most responsible for the corresponding diseases such as inflammation and breast cancer respectively. In order to examine the interaction between these two enzymes and our synthesized compounds 4a-m, molecular docking study was carried out. From the results, few compounds of 4a-m were found to have anti-inflammatory properties by showing excellent COX-2 inhibition and HRBC membrane stabilization properties. ADMET prediction results were also valuable to screen the most effective pyrazole derivatives to establish them as future COX-2 inhibitors or anti-inflammatory drugs.
