The reduction of graphene oxide (GO) was examined by using the extracts of different plants; cloves, white mulberry, black cumin seed, blackthorn, dark grape, and rosehip. The reduction efficiency of extracts was confirmed by XRD and spectroscopic analysis. The layered structure of reduced graphene and graphene nanocomposite decorated with palladium nanoparticles (PdNPs) was observed by electron microscopy techniques. This nanocomposite considered to be an active-selective catalyst for hydrogenation of nitroarenes in organic synthesis. This efficient catalyst can provide to develop clean, environmentally friendly, and energy-efficient production routes in industrial organic chemistry. Chiral ionic liquids (CILs) have shown a wide range of applications in variety of domains in chemistry. Because of this, synthesis and applications of CILs have always been areas of interest for research in the last 20 years. Present work describes, the synthesis of six carbohydrate based chiral ionic liquids (CCILs) by following simple procedures and their applications. Structures of the cats were confirmed through various analytical techniques like NMR spectroscopy (H-1, C-13, B-11, P-31,F-19), El-MS, and polarimetry. Designed CCILs were tested as chiral recognising agents using sodium salt of Mosher’s acid as model substrate through (FNMR)-F-19-N- spectroscopy. Objective To classify a cohort of depressed adolescents recruited to the UK IMPACT trial, according to trajectories of symptom change. We examined for predictors and compared the data-driven categories of patients with a priori operational definitions of treatment response. Method Secondary data analysis using growth mixture modelling (GMM). Missing data were imputed. Trajectories of self-reported depressive symptoms were plotted using scores taken at six nominal time points over 86 weeks from randomisation in all 465 patients. Results A piecewise GMM categorised patients into two classes with initially similar and subsequently distinct trajectories. Both groups had a significant decline in depressive symptoms over the first 18 weeks. Eighty-four per cent (84.1%, n = 391) of patients were classed as ‘continued-improvers’ with symptoms reducing over the duration of the study. A further class of 15.9% (n = 74) of patients were termed ‘halted-improvers’ with higher baseline depression scores, faster early recovery but no further improvement after 18 weeks. Presence of baseline comorbidity somewhat increased membership to the halted-improvers class (OR = 1.40, CI: 1.00-1.96). By end of study, compared with classes, a clinical remission cut-off score (<= 27) and a symptom reduction score (>= 50%) indexing treatment response misclassified 15% and 31% of cases, respectively. Conclusions A fast reduction in depressive symptoms in the first few weeks of treatment may not indicate a good prognosis. Halted improvement is only seen after 18 weeks of treatment. Longitudinal modelling may improve the precision of revealing differential responses to treatment. Improvement in depressive symptoms may be somewhat better in the year after treatment than previously considered.

An efficient, simple and highly versatile method for the preparation of quinoline derivatives was developed via the Friedlander annulation reaction of 2-aminoarylketones with carbonyl compounds using copper-incorporated sulfated zirconium oxide (ZrO2/SO42-/Cu) as a heterogeneous recyclable nanocatalyst. The catalyst was characterized by FTIR, TG-DTG, XRD, EDX, FE-SEM and TEM analyses. Surface acidity of the catalyst was measured by pyridine adsorption followed by FTIR spectroscopy. The catalyst contains various Lewis- and Bronsted acid sites, which along with the incorporated copper, provides high to excellent yields for all compounds in water as a green solvent at room temperature for short reaction times. The catalyst could be efficiently reused for several runs without any appreciable loss of activity. In addition, the scalability of the process was investigated in this work. Finally, a plausible reaction mechanism was suggested for this transformation.

The starting precursors 2-carbohydrazides, bearing thienopyridine moiety, were prepared using 2-thioxopyridine-3-carbonitriles as key synthons. Next, 2-carbohydrazides were reacted with a variety of 4-substituted benzylidinemalononitriles or 4-substituted benzaldehydes to afford a new series of the target hydrazones incorporating thienopyridine moiety. The elemental analyses and spectral data were used to demonstrate the structures of new hydrazones series. The in vitro antibacterial activities of the target hydrazones were evaluated against different strains of Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria. In comparison with chloramphenicol as a reference drug, hydrazones 13b, 13c and 13d, linked to p-C1, p-Br and p-Me moiety, respectively, exhibited the strongest activities against all tested bacteria with MIC values in the range of 6.2-12.5 mu g/mL. In addition, several new hydrazones were tested as in vitro cytotoxic agents against each of human breast carcinoma MCF-7 cell line, colon cancer Caco2 cell line and liver hepatocellular carcinoma HEPG2 cell line. The hydrazones 13b, 13c and 13d demonstrated the best cytotoxicity against the tested eukaryotic cells. Furthermore, both experimental and docking studies could predict the promising inhibitory activities of hydrazones 13c and 13d against COX-2 enzyme with IC 50 of 0.110 and 0.104 mu M, respectively, when compared with Celecoxib (IC50 of 0.115 mu M).
