An efficient oxidation and functionalization of C-H bonds with an inorganic-ligand supported iron catalyst and hydrogen peroxide to prepare the corresponding ketones was achieved using the bromide ion as a promoter. Preliminary mechanistic investigations indicated that the bromide ion can bind to FeMo6 to form a supramolecular species (FeMo6 center dot 2Br), which can effectively catalyze the reaction.

A green Barluenga-Valdes cross-coupling reaction for the synthesis of 1,1-diarylethylenes using palladium catalysis has been developed. The new catalytic system based on Pd/Xphos-SO3Na or Pd/MeDavephos-CF3SO3 in PEG/H2O under microwave irradiation was found to be the best conditions for this transformation. The recyclability of the palladium catalyst system was also studied, and it was found to be active over nine runs without significant loss in its activity.

A novel nonanuclear copper(II) complex obtained by a facile one-pot self-assembly was found to catalyze the hydroboration of ketones and aldehydes with the absence of an activator under mild, solvent-free conditions. The catalyst is air-and moisture-stable, displaying high efficiency (1980 h(-1) turnover frequency, TOF) and chemo-selectivity on aldehydes over ketones and ketones over imines. This represents a rare example of divalent copper catalyst for the hydroboration of carbonyls.

Herein a new Ru-phosphine complex (1) with molecular formula [RuL(PPh3)Cl-2] is reported where L is a redox active pincer ligand 2,6-bis(phenylazo)pyridine. The isolated complex has been characterized by usual spectroscopic techniques including single crystal X-ray crystallographic analysis. Complex 1 efficiently catalyzes aerobic oxidation of a wide range of primary and secondary benzylic, allylic, heterocyclic, alicyclic alcohols under mild conditions and is found to be superior over several other Ru (0, +2 and + 3), Ru-H and Ru-PPh3 catalysts. Mechanistic studies indicate that a transient Ru-H intermediate is formed in the catalytic cycle which gets switched into a Ru-hydrazo intermediate via hydrogen-walking mechanism. The catalyst is regenerated by aerial oxidation producing H2O2 as a by-product.

The present work describes the crystal structure, third-order nonlinear optical (NLO) properties and Hirshfeld Surface (HFs) analysis of 1-(4-nitrophenyl)-3-(2, 3, 4,-trimethoxyphenyl) prop-en-1-one (2, 3,4TMNC). The synthesized material was characterised by FT-IR, FT-Raman, UV-Visible, NMR [H-1, C-13 {H-1}] and single crystal X-ray diffraction techniques. TGA-DTA analysis revealed that crystal has higher thermal stability. HFs analysis is performed to visualize intra and intermolecular interactions (C-H center dot center dot center dot O). The third-order NLO properties were studied using standard open and closed aperture Z-Scan technique with a continuous wave (CW) DPSS laser (lambda= 532 nm). The calculated values of nonlinear refraction coefficient (n(2)), third-order nonlinear susceptibility (chi((3))) and nonlinear absorption coefficient ((3) were found to be of the order of -10(-9) cm(2)/W, 10(-7) esu and 10(-5) cmW(-1) respectively. Normalized transmittance is decreased with increased input intensity of laser i.e. 2, 3, 4 TMNC showed good optical limiting property. The optical limiting threshold was found to be 3.36 kJ/cm(2). Novel arginine-functionalized starch-based nanoparticles (Arg-SNPs) were synthesized and characterized by Fourier transforms infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDAX), X-ray diffraction (XRD) and thermos-gravimetric analyses (TGA) techniques. The comprehensive study of the reactions of carbonyl compounds and ethyl diazoacetate in the presence of a Bronsted acid catalyst is described. In result, a broad range of 3-oxo-esters were synthesized from a variety of ketones and aliphatic aldehydes by 1,2-aryl/alkyl/hydride shift. Aryl-methyl ketones produced only aryl-migrated products, whereas other ketones yielded a mixture of products. For diaryl ketones, the identity of two inseparable migrated products was confirmed by two-dimensional NMR spectroscopy.

Uniform dispersion of ultrafine spherical silver nanoparticles (NPs) was obtained over the surface of Fe3O4@SiO2@KIT-6 core-shell support via functionalization of the mesoporous KIT-6 shell by aminopropyltriethoxysilane, followed by coordination of Ag+ ions and in situ chemical reduction with sodium borohydride. The obtained hybrid material, Fe3O4@SiO2@KIT-6-Ag nanocomposite, was fully characterized by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy, and transmission electron microscopy, and used as an efficient catalyst for selective reduction of nitroaromatic compounds in aqueous solution at ambient temperature and neutral pH [nine examples, apparent rate constants at 25 degrees C, k (min(-1)), 0.112-0.628]. As a non-aromatic example, nitrofurazone which is a cytotoxic antibiotic was also reduced selectively at nitro group without reduction of other functionalities. Fe3O4@SiO2@KIT-6-Ag NPs also showed potential ability to act as catalyst for reduction of nitromethane in aqueous solution which can provide a colorimetric method for detection of nitromethane in solution down to 0.9×10(-4)molL(-1). Fe3O4@SiO2@KIT-6-Ag nanocomposite was also screened for its antibacterial activity, and satisfactory results were obtained in comparison with drug references including Tetracycline, Chloramphenicol and Cefotaxime as positive controls, on gram negative Escherichia coli and Pseudomonas aeroginosa. Ease of recycling of the Fe3O4@SiO2@KIT-6-Ag is another benefit of this nanocatalyst. Under the optimized conditions, the recycled catalyst showed 15% loss of efficiency after five successive runs. A set of 12 monosubstituted acetophenone thiosemicarbazone derivatives (TSCs) were synthesized and their inhibitory properties toward tyrosinase activity were tested. Moreover, their ability to inhibit melanogenesis in the B16F10 murine melanoma cell line was studied. In order to investigate the nature of interactions between the enzyme and the inhibitors, molecular docking to the active site was performed. TSCs 5, 6, 8, and 9 revealed a half maximal inhibitory concentration (IC50) below 1 mu M. Compound 6 turned out to be the most potent tyrosinase inhibitor. All investigated compounds showed reversible inhibition of competitive or mixed type. The para-substituted TSCs had higher affinity for the enzyme as compared to their ortho- and meta-analogues. All investigated compounds inhibited melanin production in B16F10 cells at the micromolar level. Molecular docking showed that the sulfur atom of the thiourea moiety penetrates the active site and interacts with copper ions. The above outcomes might be helpful in the design of new tyrosinase inhibitors in the food and cosmetic industries.
