Graphitic carbon nitride (g-C3N4) and graphene (GO) have been greatly utilized as supports in the field of heterogeneous catalysis. In this work, layered C3N4 polymer/graphene hybrid (CNNS/rGO(20)) with heterostructure was fabricated by a hydrothermal method followed by loading Pd nanoparticles on the hybrid. The palladium was well dispersed uniformly (1.31 nm) owing to the layered and porous heterostructure of CNNS/rGO(20). The obtained catalyst was used for the transfer hydrogenation of a series of nitro-compounds to give the corresponding aromatic amines with outstanding activity by employing formic acid as hydrogen donor under mild conditions. The catalytic activity of the heterogeneous catalyst showed no significant loss after five continuous use.

Carbon nanospheres, CCDs, were fabricated using beta-cyclodextrin as carbon precursor. The as prepared CCD was then hybridized with halloysite nanotubes (Hal) through hydrothermal treatment to furnish a nanocomposite, Hal-CCD that was subsequently applied as support to stabilize Pd nanoparticles. Investigation of the catalytic activity of palladated nanocomposite, Pd@Hal-CCD, for the hydrogenation reaction of nitrobenzenes confirmed that Pd@Hal-CCD could efficiently promote the hydrogenation reaction under mild reaction condition. Moreover, the catalyst was recyclable and showed slight Pd leaching upon reusing. The comparison of the catalytic activity of Pd@Hal-CCD with that of Pd@Hal and Pd@CCD indicated the superior catalytic activity of the former. The observed high catalytic activity of the catalyst was attributed to its higher Pd loading and water disperse ability. Additionally, the results confirmed that the ratio of Hal:CCD could affect the catalytic activity and the best result was obtained by using Hal:CCD ratio of 1:2. (C) 2019 Elsevier Ltd. A synthesis of beta-ketosulfones via sulfination of aryl methyl ketones and aryl acetylenes with sodium sulfinates under mild electrochemical conditions, in moderate to good chemical yields, is described. In particular, an electrochemical sulfination reaction of alkynes with sulfinate salts has never been explored. An environmentally friendly characteristic of this reaction is that it uses electricity as a valuable energy source for electrochemical synthesis of beta-ketosulfones. This strategy is more convenient and practical compared to previous approaches.

Background: Diabetes mellitus is the third-largest non-communicable chronic disease worldwide. There are many effective drugs, but the long-term use of these clinical drugs may cause various side effects. Therefore, it is urgent to develop new antidiabetic molecules with higher efficacy and lower toxicity. Methods: Fifteen new 3-aryl-1-(5-methylisoxazol-3-ylamino)-1-(4-nitrophenyl)propan-1-one were synthesized directly through the Mannich reaction of 4-nitroacetophenone, 3-amino-5-methylisoxazole and aromatic aldehydes catalyzed by concentrated hydrochloric acid. The molecular structures of the products were fully characterized by H-1 NMR, C-13 NMR, ESI MS and HRMS. The peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor (PPAR) response element and alpha-glucosidase inhibitory activity of these compounds were evaluated in vitro. Molecular docking, molecular physical parameters calculation, and molecular toxicity prediction were performed to analyze the structure-activity relationship and evaluate the druggability of these compounds theoretically. Results: All compounds exhibited weak antidiabetic activities, but compound 15 showed promising as a high performance, dual-target antidiabetic lead compound with peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor (PPAR) response element relative agonist activity of 99.55% at 27.2 nmol.ml(-1) and alpha-glucosidase inhibitory activity of 35.21% at 13.6 nmol.mL(-1). All compounds obtained may have no cardiotoxicity, no acute toxicity, no carcinogenic, and within safe range of mutagenic risk. Conclusion: This study identified a potential PPAR lead molecule and presented an unusual strategy for antidiabetic drug development.

In the present investigation, an alluring green PEG-400 mediated one-pot synthesis of novel 2-(2-hydrazinyl)thiazole derivatives from 1,2,6,7-tetrahydro-8H-indeno[5,4-b]furan-8-one has been unveiled via a novel synthetic pathway. The application of PEG in organic reactions as a reaction media is one of the fantastic tools of green chemistry as reactions can be carried out under generous conditions limiting environmental peril and chemical waste. PEG-400 is recognized as a low-cost, non-flammable, environmentally benign, recyclable, and richly available green solvent. A series of novel 2-(2-hydrazineyl)thiazole derivatives have been synthesized in good to excellent yield by using the green capability of PEG-400 solvent. These newly synthesized compounds were tested for their antimicrobial and antioxidant activities. The results revealed that these compounds show good activities compared with the standard. Additionally, all the synthesized compounds exhibit negligible cytotoxicity as compared to the positive control. The structures of all novel compounds reported herein are established using FT-IR, H-1 NMR, C-13 NMR, D2O exchange experiment and HRMS techniques.

Modified polycyanostyrene and polynitrostyrene microspheres were designed and synthesized, which proved to be an effective carrier to prepare gold nanoparticles with pentazole gold as a catalyst precursor. The developed gold nanoparticles were characterized using scanning electron microscopy, transmission electron microscopy, energy dispersive X-ray, X-ray power diffraction and X-ray photoelectron spectrometry. In addition, it was observed that this catalytic system successfully achieved application in the synthesis of cinnoline derivatives and hydration reactions in high yields. Mechanism investigation was conducted to better understand these transformations and catalyst systems. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first example of utilizing pentazole gold as the catalyst precursor and achieving catalytic applications.

In the present work, four types of heterocyclic core-based polybenzoxazine matrices (HC-PBZ) developed based on pyridine, thiophene, and thiazole and their molecular structure, thermal, flame-retardant and luminescent properties were studied and discussed. The heterocyclic core-based benzoxazine monomers (HC-BZ) were synthesized using two types of phenols (phenol, and 4-hydroxyphenylacetonitrile), and two types of heterocyclic diamines [2,6-Bis-(4-aminophenyl)-4-thiophen-2-yl-pyridine (BATP) and 4-(2-methylthiazol-5-yl)-2,6-bis-(4-aminophenyl)-pyridine (BAMTP)] with formaldehyde through Mannich reaction. The structure of the four HC-BZ monomers was confirmed by various spectral analysis such as Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), and Nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy ((HNMR)-H-1 and (CNMR)-C-13). All the four HC-BZ monomers have the maximum range of curing temperature (T-p) between 252 and 267 degrees C. Data resulted from the thermal studies indicate that the HC-PBZ exhibits better T-g,T- thermal stability and flame-retardant properties. Among the four HC-PBZ systems the thiazole based system possesses the higher value of T-g of 268 degrees C and thermal stability when compared to those of other matrices. It was also observed that the HC-BZ monomers and HC-PBZ polymers exhibit a photoluminescent (PL) emission range between 441-445 and 414-417nm, respectively. Overall, it seems that the thiazole and thiophene based HC-PBZ can be considered as competitive materials for luminescent applications with high thermal and flame-retardant properties. Replication protein A (RPA) is the major human single stranded DNA (ssDNA)-binding protein, playing essential roles in DNA replication, repair, recombination, and DNA-damage response (DDR). Inhibition of RPA-DNA interactions represents a therapeutic strategy for cancer drug discovery and has great potential to provide single agent anticancer activity and to synergize with both common DNA damaging chemotherapeutics and newer targeted anticancer agents. In this letter, a new series of analogues based on our previously reported TDRL-551 (4) compound were designed to improve potency and physicochemical properties. Molecular docking studies guided molecular insights, and further SAR exploration led to the identification of a series of novel compounds with low micromolar RPA inhibitory activity, increased solubility, and excellent cellular up-take. Among a series of analogues, compounds 43, 44, 45, and 46 hold promise for further development of novel anticancer agents.
