The first step involves nucleophilic addition of the trimethylsilylmethyl group to ketones using the alkylation method developed by Ishihara with slight modification to generate the corresponding beta-silylalkoxides. The second step entails addition of diisobutylaluminum chloride and heating at about 130 degrees C overnight to afford allylsilanes in fair yields.

A new Fe(II) Schiff base complex anchored on mont-K10 (Fe@imine-mont-K10) was synthesized and extensively characterized by FTIR, powder X-ray diffraction, SEM-EDX, TEM, ESR, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), BET surface area measurement, solid state Si-29 NMR and ICP-AES analysis. The catalytic activity of the complex was investigated for hydrogenation of ketones. The results indicated that it exhibited good catalytic activity for hydrogenation of aromatic as well as aliphatic ketones in i-PrOH/CH3CN (1:1) using Na-i-OPr as base at 80 degrees C resulting in moderate to excellent isolated yields (51-99%) of their corresponding products. A series of p-cymene and cyclopentadienyl Ru(II)-aNHC complexes were synthesized from 2-methylimidazolium salts with either an N-bound alkenyl (1, 3) or picolyl tether (6, 7). The C(5)-Me substituted alkenyl-tethered analogues (2, 4) were also synthesized. Ag-mediated C(2)-dealkylation was a prominent side reaction that led to the formation of normally bound NHC Ru(II) complexes, which in selected cases were isolated (5, 8). Aim: Identification of new, effective and selective trypanocidal agents. Materials & methods: Twelve novel acetohydroxamic acid derivatives based on 2-alkyl-2-aryl-2,6-diketopiperazine scaffolds have been synthesized and evaluated in vitro for their growth inhibitory activity against bloodstream form Trypanosoma brucei. Results: All the analogs were remarkably potent inhibitors, with low micromolar to submicromolar activities. Structure-activity relationship studies demonstrated that the presence of an alkyl substituent at the N(4)-position of the 2,6-diketopiperazine ring portion was, in general, beneficial to trypanocidal activity in this series. Conclusion: The highest activity resulted from the introduction of a methyl, n-propyl or n-butyl substituent to the N(4)-position of the parent compound. In the present work, an efficient regioselective synthesis of 1,3,4-tri- and 1,3,4,5-tetrasubstituted pyrazoles via a methanesulfonic acid (MSA)-catalyzed reaction of hydrazones with enaminones or enamines is reported. Mechanistically, the formation of the title compounds involves the [2+3] cycloaddition of hydrazones with enaminones or enamines followed by aromatization with acid and oxygen. This convenient method under mild conditions with various hydrazones, enaminones, and enamines was well-tolerated to afford products in good to excellent yields. Compared with the literature methods, this strategy has advantages such as materials that are available economically, metal-free catalysis, excellent regioselectivity, and high efficiency.

Reductive catalysis with earth-abundant metals is currently of increasing importance and shows potential in replacing precious metal catalysis. In this work, we revealed catalytic hydroboration and hydrosilylation of ketones and aldehydes achieved by a structurally defined manganese(ii) coordination polymer (CP) as a precatalyst under mild conditions. The manganese-catalysed methodology can be applied to a range of functionalized aldehydes and ketones with turnover numbers (TON) of up to 990. Preliminary results on the regioselective catalytic hydrofunctionalization of styrenes by the Mn-CP catalyst are also presented.

Aim and Objective: Nowadays, the design, synthesis and application of magnetically nanocomposite systems have attracted the attention of numerous scientists. The huge surface area and magnetic characteristic of nanoparticles as well as the inherent potentiality of the used metal species, makes them susceptible to have different reactivity in chemical reactions. In this context, we therefore encouraged to prepare a new design of magnetic nanocatalysts as CuFe2O4@SiO2@AAPTMS@Ni(II) and CuFe2O4@SiO2@AAPTMS@Cu(II) followed by monitoring of their catalytic activities towards reduction of nitroarenes with NaBH4. Materials and Methods: Magnetically nanoparticles of CuFe2O4@SiO2@AAPTMS@Ni(II) and CuFe2O4@SiO2@AAPTMS@Cu(II) were prepared through a four-step procedure: i) preparation of CuFe2O4 MNPs, ii) coating of CuFe2O4 nucleus by silica-layer using tetraethyl orthosilicate (TEOS), iii) layering of CuFe2O4@SiO2 MNPs with [3-(2-aminoethylamino)propyl] trimethoxysilane (AAPTMS), and iv) the complexation of CuFe2O4@SiO2@AAPTMS MNPs with an aqueous solution of Ni(OAc)(2)center dot 4H(2)O or Cu(OAc)(2)center dot H2O. Results: The catalytic activity of CuFe2O4@SiO2@AAPTMS@AAPTMS@Ni(II) and the Cu(II)-analogue towards reduction of nitroarenes with NaBH4 was studied. The examinations resulted that using a molar ratio of 1:2 for ArNO2 and NaBH4 in the presence of 20 mg of nanocomposites in H2O under reflux conditions reduces various aromatic nitro compounds to arylamines in high yields. Conclusion: The immobilization of Ni(II) and Cu(II) species on silica-layered CuFe2O4 was investigated. Magnetically nanoparticles of CuFe2O4@SiO2@AAPTMS@Ni(II) and the Cu(II)-analogue showed the perfect catalytic activity towards reduction of nitroarenes with NaBH4, in H2O. All reactions were carried out within 2-15 min to afford aniline products in high yields.

N-Aryl acetamides synthesis from the corresponding nitro compounds via a reductive N-acetylation was achieved over Pd supported on Sn modified Al2O3 catalyst using H-2, acetic anhydride as acetylating agent in aqueous media at ambient temperature. The pyridine-IR data demonstrated a majority of Lewis acid sites compared to Bronsted acid sites on the catalyst surface. Modification of active metals with metal oxide modifiers has attracted considerable attention in heterogeneous catalysis due to their synergistic effect. However, a controllable synthesis of highly reactive and stable metal-metal oxide hybrid nanocatalysts is difficult. To solve this problem, presynthesized IrM (M = Fe, Co, and Ni) bimetallic nanoparticles were initially confined in the mesopores of SBA-15 and were then in situ transformed to Ir-MOx hybrids. The obtained Ir-MOx/SBA-15 nanocatalysts show superior activity and selectivity in the hydrogenation of substituted nitroaromatics to corresponding aromatic amines compared to Ir/SBA-15. Among these Ir-based catalysts, Ir-FeOx/SBA-15 exhibits the highest activity and selectivity and has a wider substrate scope due to the interaction between Ir and FeOx. Therefore, our research provides a way to design reactive and stable hydrogenation catalysts.
