Imidazolin-2-iminato hafnium complexes of the type [(Im (R) N)Hf(CH2Ph)(3)] were synthesized (Im(tBu)N = 1,3-di-tert-butylimidazolin-2-iminato); Im(Dipp)N = 1,3-bis(2,6-diisopropylphenyl)-imidazolin-2-iminato. The complexes were crystallized and structurally characterized. Despite the oxophilicity of the hafnium center, both hafnium complexes were catalytically active in the hydroboration of aldehydes, ketones, and carbodiimides. Herein, we present the influence of different substrates bearing electron-withdrawing or electron-donating groups on the catalytic reactions. Based on stoichiometric reaction in each process, plausible mechanistic scenarios are presented.

A simple and practical domino protocol for the selective synthesis of 2-aroylbenzothiazoles and 2-aryl benzothiazoles catalyzed by I-2 is developed under metal-free conditions. The reaction outcomes are exclusively controlled by the reaction oxidant/medium. With DMSO employed as both the solvent and the oxidant, an oxidation of aromatic methyl ketones takes precedence over the condensation with 2-aminobenzenethiols. On the other hand, when the reaction was carried out in PhNO2 or in 1,4-dioxane containing PhNO2, the condensation of aromatic methyl ketones with 2-aminobenzenethiols has priority to form imines which is followed by an oxidation of the methyl group from ketones to afford 2-arylbenzothiazoles as a sole product. The PhNO2/I-2 co-catalytic system is proposed first time.

A novel nonanuclear copper(II) complex obtained by a facile one-pot self-assembly was found to catalyze the hydroboration of ketones and aldehydes with the absence of an activator under mild, solvent-free conditions. The catalyst is air-and moisture-stable, displaying high efficiency (1980 h(-1) turnover frequency, TOF) and chemo-selectivity on aldehydes over ketones and ketones over imines. This represents a rare example of divalent copper catalyst for the hydroboration of carbonyls.

The chemistry of the boron cation has been revitalized in the past decade due to its newfound application in stoichiometric and catalytic organic reactions. To extend the frontier of boron cation catalysis, we came to discover that a mesityl-substituted eta(5)-Cp*-coordinated boron cation could serve as a powerful Lewis acid for organic catalytic transformations. The boron cation [Cp*B-Mes][B(C6F5)(4)] ([1] [B(C6F5)(4)]) stabilized in a boronium-like electronic structure binds to Et3PO readily and displays an acceptor number exceeding that of B(C6F5)(3) on the Gutmann-Beckett acidity scale. The steric and electronic stabilization exerted by the electron-donating Cp* renders the highly Lewis acidic boron cation an easy-to-handle catalyst for hydrodeoxygenation of aryl ketones at ambient temperature. The exceptional catalytic performance of [1](+) implies that the incorporation of a coordinatively flexible substituent at boron is critical in bringing catalytic activity and stability to boron cation catalysts.

P-glycoprotein (P-gp)-mediated multidrug resistance (MDR) is a major obstacle to successful chemotherapy for leukemia. In this study, a series of thiosemicarbazone-containing compounds (4a-b, 7a-q) were synthesized. Biological evaluation showed that the most active compound 7e displayed potent anti-leukemia activity against P-gp overexpressing drug-resistant K562/A02 cells, with an IC50 value of 0.44 mu M. Notably, compound 7e exhibited a selective killing effect on K562/A02 cells by dose-dependently increasing the intracellular levels of reactive oxygen species (ROS), thus exerting a potential collateral sensitivity (CS)-promoting effect in vitro. Moreover, compound 7e could inhibit HDAC1 and HDAC6, and induce the apoptosis of K562/A02 cells by increasing the expression of Bax, decreasing Bcl-2 protein level, and promoting the cleavage of caspase-3 and PARP, respectively. Overall, 7e may be a potential anti-cancer agent against drug-resistant myelogenous leukemia.

A simple phosphine-free cobalt-NHC pincer complex has been synthesized and utilized for the transfer hydrogenation of ketones with 2-propanol as hydrogen donor. Several commercially available lipases were examined in a study on O-Si bond formation and cleavage applying silicon-based protecting groups and alcohols or the corresponding silyl ethers. With regard to deprotection, from silyl ether to the corresponding alcohol, only the solvent and the lipase were necessary. The influence of the protecting group, the lipase source, and the substituent was investigated to optimize the results. The TMS moiety could be removed in 24 hours of reaction at room temperature in aqueous systems (conv. up to 99%, depending on the substrate and lipase). The reverse reactions, that is, with the protection of the alcohols, were carried out in hexane using different silyl chlorides. The TMS, TES, and TBS moieties were successfully inserted in the primary and secondary alcohols without the need for dry conditions or an inert atmosphere, presenting conversions of up to 99%, depending on the substrate.

As the global need for drugs getting increases, the necessity of novel and effective drugs are the need of the day. Pyrazoles are one of the active molecules in novel drug discovery. The present study deals about the synthesis of precursors 4-(4-fluorophenyl)-6-isopropyl-2-(methylsulfonyl) pyrimidine-5-carbohydrazides (3a-m) from methyl- 4-(4-fluorophenyl)-6-isopropyl-2-(methyl sulfonyl) pyrimidine-5-carboxylate (2) by treating with substituted acetophenone. Further, Vilsmeier-Haack reaction of compounds 3a-m at 70 degrees C for 8-10 hrs gave novel pyrazole carbaldehyde derivatives (4a-m) in good yield. Biological properties like antioxidant, anti-breast cancer and anti-inflammatory of newly synthesized compounds (4a-m) were determined. The enzymes Cyclooxygenase-2 and Phosphoinositide-3-Kinase are most responsible for the corresponding diseases such as inflammation and breast cancer respectively. In order to examine the interaction between these two enzymes and our synthesized compounds 4a-m, molecular docking study was carried out. From the results, few compounds of 4a-m were found to have anti-inflammatory properties by showing excellent COX-2 inhibition and HRBC membrane stabilization properties. ADMET prediction results were also valuable to screen the most effective pyrazole derivatives to establish them as future COX-2 inhibitors or anti-inflammatory drugs.

Sustainable development demands an environmentally friendly and efficient method for the hydrogenation of organic molecules, including the hydrogenation of functionalized nitroarenes. In this study, a highly active and selective metal-organic framework-supported palladium catalyst was prepared for the catalytic hydrogenation of nitroarenes. High selectivity (>99%) and excellent yield (98%) of aniline were realized after 2 hours in ethanol under hydrogen (1 atm) at room temperature. The reductions were successfully carried out in the presence of a wide range of other reducible functional groups. More importantly, the catalyst was very stable without the loss of its catalytic activity after five cycles.
