Anilines are the most important fine chemicals that have been widely used as the intermediates of industrial products. Herein, a new series of nanostructured Mo-based catalysts were reported, such as MoOx/ZSM-5(25), MoOx/ZSM-5(50) and MoOx/SBA-15, which can serve as efficient catalysts in the hydrogenation of nitroarenes by using hydrogen as the reducing reagent to afford functionalized anilines. Those catalysts showed both excellent activity and high chemoselectivity of the nitro group even though other reducible groups (C-X, C=C, C=O and C equivalent to N) were exiting. This protocol constitutes an economically responsible pathway for the synthesis of anilines in high yields, good functional group compatibility and high chemselectivity.

A series of piperine-based dienehydrazide derivatives were designed and synthesized to be used as insecticides against Culex pipiens. The chemical structure of compound 5n was confirmed by single-crystal x-ray diffraction. Their insecticidal activities of synthesized compounds were tested against third-instar larval of Cx. pipiens at concentrations ranging from 0.1 to 1.2 mg/mL. Among all derivatives, compounds 5a, 5b, 5f, 5g, 5m, 5n, 5o, 5p, and 5u displayed good activities. The final mortality rates at the concentration of 0.75 mg/mL after 48 h treatment, were found to be in the range from 80.00 to 83.33% and with LC50 values ranging from 0.221 to 0.094 mg/mL. These compounds demonstrated higher insecticidal activities than piperine and Deltamethrin (a commercial positive control). Molecular modelling reveals several molecular interactions between synthesized compounds and the substrate binding sits of acetylcholinesterase (AChE) that are predicted to be responsible for its binding and inhibition activity.

A metal-free sequential one-pot three-component protocol is described for the synthesis of C3-functionalized imidazo[1,2-a]pyridines. A successive construction of imidazo[1,2-a]pyridine followed by iodine-catalysed sulfenylation has been achieved in a one-pot operation from readily available alpha-bromomethyl ketones, 2-aminopyridines and thiosulfonates. An immense array of 3-sulfenylimidazo[1,2-a]pyridines were obtained in good to high yields. Also, the method extended for the synthesis of C3-halogenated imidazo[1,2-a]pyridines using sodium halides in the presence of K2S2O8. Notably, the reaction between alpha-bromomethyl ketones and 2-aminopyridines in the presence of K2S2O8 to yield 3-bromo-2-aryl-imidazo[1,2-a]pyridines, thus implies alpha-bromomethyl ketones also served as brominating agent. Overall, the present sequential one-pot protocol is straightforward, operationally simple, tolerates a broad range of functional groups, and is reliable for gram-scale experiments.

The reduction of graphene oxide (GO) was examined by using the extracts of different plants; cloves, white mulberry, black cumin seed, blackthorn, dark grape, and rosehip. The reduction efficiency of extracts was confirmed by XRD and spectroscopic analysis. The layered structure of reduced graphene and graphene nanocomposite decorated with palladium nanoparticles (PdNPs) was observed by electron microscopy techniques. This nanocomposite considered to be an active-selective catalyst for hydrogenation of nitroarenes in organic synthesis. This efficient catalyst can provide to develop clean, environmentally friendly, and energy-efficient production routes in industrial organic chemistry. We report a unique and expeditious route to synthesize 1-isochromanone derivatives through palladium catalyzed tandem Heck coupling/6-endo hydroacyloxylation cyclization between readily available ortho-halogenated benzoates and unactivated alkenes. Various 2-bromo or 2-iodo benzoates can be coupled efficiently with a broad range of alkenes to afford functionalized 1-isochromanones in high yields. Significantly, this cost-efficient and easy-to-handle synthetic methodology will have great prospect application in the synthetic and medicinal chemistry.

Porous nanoreactors demonstrate immense potential for applications in heterogeneous catalysis due to their excellent mass-transfer performance and stability. The design of a simple, universal strategy for fabricating nanoreactor catalysts is of significance for organic transformation. In this study, a nanoreactor with a hierarchical mesoporous yolk-shell structure was successfully prepared by the high-temperature carbonization of a ZIF-67@polymer composite. The core of the resultant Co@ZDC@mC material comprised Co NPs anchored in the ZIF-67-derived carbon framework, while the shell comprised resin-polymer-derived mesoporous carbon. The as-obtained Co@ZDC@mC-700 catalyst enriched reactants, efficiently catalyzed the reaction in the core, and permitted the desorption of the product from the nanoreactor. In the catalytic reduction of nitrobenzene with N2H4.H2O, Co@ZDC@mC-700 exhibited superior catalytic efficiency (TOF=1136.3 h(-1)). In addition, Co@ZDC@mC-700 exhibited excellent performance for the catalytic reduction of various functionalized nitroarenes, as well as good reusability and recyclability. Hence, a simple, useful approach for fabricating a metal-organic-framework-derived non-noble metal-based yolk-shell nanoreactor for effective catalytic transformation is proposed.
