N-Aryl acetamides synthesis from the corresponding nitro compounds via a reductive N-acetylation was achieved over Pd supported on Sn modified Al2O3 catalyst using H-2, acetic anhydride as acetylating agent in aqueous media at ambient temperature. The pyridine-IR data demonstrated a majority of Lewis acid sites compared to Bronsted acid sites on the catalyst surface. Pyridine-IR and CO pulse chemisorption results emphasized a combination of surface palladium in conjunction with Lewis acid sites were responsible for the high activity of 2wt%Pd/5wt%Sn-Al2O3 over 2wt%Pd/Al2O3 catalyst with consistent activity and selectivity for four recycles. The bulk and surface properties of the catalysts were characterized by BET-SA, XRD, XPS, TPD of NH3, H-2-TPR, CO pulse chemisorption, TEM and the promotional effect of surface Lewis acid sites are rationalized by in situ pyridine adsorbed DRIFT spectroscopy.

Aim and Objective: Nowadays, the design, synthesis and application of magnetically nanocomposite systems have attracted the attention of numerous scientists. The huge surface area and magnetic characteristic of nanoparticles as well as the inherent potentiality of the used metal species, makes them susceptible to have different reactivity in chemical reactions. In this context, we therefore encouraged to prepare a new design of magnetic nanocatalysts as CuFe2O4@SiO2@AAPTMS@Ni(II) and CuFe2O4@SiO2@AAPTMS@Cu(II) followed by monitoring of their catalytic activities towards reduction of nitroarenes with NaBH4. Materials and Methods: Magnetically nanoparticles of CuFe2O4@SiO2@AAPTMS@Ni(II) and CuFe2O4@SiO2@AAPTMS@Cu(II) were prepared through a four-step procedure: i) preparation of CuFe2O4 MNPs, ii) coating of CuFe2O4 nucleus by silica-layer using tetraethyl orthosilicate (TEOS), iii) layering of CuFe2O4@SiO2 MNPs with [3-(2-aminoethylamino)propyl] trimethoxysilane (AAPTMS), and iv) the complexation of CuFe2O4@SiO2@AAPTMS MNPs with an aqueous solution of Ni(OAc)(2)center dot 4H(2)O or Cu(OAc)(2)center dot H2O. Results: The catalytic activity of CuFe2O4@SiO2@AAPTMS@AAPTMS@Ni(II) and the Cu(II)-analogue towards reduction of nitroarenes with NaBH4 was studied. The examinations resulted that using a molar ratio of 1:2 for ArNO2 and NaBH4 in the presence of 20 mg of nanocomposites in H2O under reflux conditions reduces various aromatic nitro compounds to arylamines in high yields. Conclusion: The immobilization of Ni(II) and Cu(II) species on silica-layered CuFe2O4 was investigated. Magnetically nanoparticles of CuFe2O4@SiO2@AAPTMS@Ni(II) and the Cu(II)-analogue showed the perfect catalytic activity towards reduction of nitroarenes with NaBH4, in H2O. All reactions were carried out within 2-15 min to afford aniline products in high yields.

Reductive catalysis with earth-abundant metals is currently of increasing importance and shows potential in replacing precious metal catalysis. In this work, we revealed catalytic hydroboration and hydrosilylation of ketones and aldehydes achieved by a structurally defined manganese(ii) coordination polymer (CP) as a precatalyst under mild conditions. The manganese-catalysed methodology can be applied to a range of functionalized aldehydes and ketones with turnover numbers (TON) of up to 990. Preliminary results on the regioselective catalytic hydrofunctionalization of styrenes by the Mn-CP catalyst are also presented.

In the present work, an efficient regioselective synthesis of 1,3,4-tri- and 1,3,4,5-tetrasubstituted pyrazoles via a methanesulfonic acid (MSA)-catalyzed reaction of hydrazones with enaminones or enamines is reported. Mechanistically, the formation of the title compounds involves the [2+3] cycloaddition of hydrazones with enaminones or enamines followed by aromatization with acid and oxygen. This convenient method under mild conditions with various hydrazones, enaminones, and enamines was well-tolerated to afford products in good to excellent yields. Compared with the literature methods, this strategy has advantages such as materials that are available economically, metal-free catalysis, excellent regioselectivity, and high efficiency.

Synthesis of a series of 2-arylbenzo[d]imidazo[2,1-b] thiazoles tethered with barbituric acid moiety has been reported from the three component reaction of 2-aminobenzothiazoles, barbituric acids and terminal aryl acetylenes or aryl methyl ketones in the presence of I-2 in DMSO medium. Both conventional and microwave heating conditions can be used for this multicomponent reaction. The synthesis, optical properties, theoretical calculations, and antibacterial activities of a series of new red heterocyclic dyes derived from imidazo[1,2-a]pyridine are presented. 3-(Hydroxyimino)imidazo[1,2-a]pyridin-2(3H)-ylidene)-1-arylethanones are obtained from the reaction of 3-nitroimidazo[1,2-a]pyridine with substituted acetophenone derivatives in good yields (65%-72%). The structures are confirmed by spectral and analytical data, and the optical properties of the dyes are characterized by spectrophotometry. Density functional theory calculations are performed to provide the optimized geometries and relevant frontier orbitals. Calculated electronic absorption spectra are also obtained by the time-dependent density functional theory method. Moreover, the antibacterial activities (minimum inhibitory concentration) of the new dyes against Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacterial species are determined (minimum inhibitory concentration: 5-200 mu g mL(-1)).

Novel substituted bis-(3-cyano-2-pyridone) derivatives were prepared via a powerful method using enaminonitriles push-pull dienes as key building blocks. The synthesis was performed in three steps from easily accessible starting materials in good yields. All target products were structurally elucidated by spectroscopic data.
