A new diamine bearing flexible ether, rigid pyridine, and bulky anthrone pendent group, 10,10-bis[4-(4-amino-2-pyridinoxy)phenyl]-9(10H)-anthrone (BAPPA), was prepared in three steps from anthrone. BAPPA was reacted with six conventional aromatic dianhydrides in N, N-dimethylacetamide (DMAc) to form the corresponding new poly(ether imide)s (PEIs) via the poly(ether amic acid) (PEAA) precursors with inherent viscosities ranging from 0.85 dL g(-1) to 1.26 dL g(-1) and thermal imidization. All the PEAAs could be cast from DMAc solution and thermally converted into transparent, flexible, and tough PEI films with tensile strength of 72.2-112.4 MPa, tensile modulus of 1.8-2.1 GPa, and elongation at break of 10-18%. These PEIs were predominantly amorphous and displayed excellent thermal stability with the glass transition temperature of 290-388 degrees C, the 5% weight loss temperature of 480-514 degrees C, and the residue of 68-43% at 800 degrees C in nitrogen. The PEIs derived from 1,4-bis(3,4-dicarboxyphenoxy)benzene dianhydride and 4,4 ‘-hexafluoroisopropylidenediphathalic anhydride exhibited excellent solubility in organic solvents such as N-methyl-2-pyrrolidinone, DMAc, N, N-dimethylformamide, pyridine, and even in tetrahydrofuran. Meanwhile, these PEIs also exhibited high optical transparency with the ultraviolet cutoff wavelength in the 374-427 nm range and the wavelength of 80% transparency in the range of 468-493 nm.

Membrane-bound pyrophosphatases (mPPases) regulate energy homeostasis in pathogenic protozoan parasites and lack human homologues, which makes them promising targets in e.g. malaria. Yet only few nonphosphorus inhibitors have been reported so far. Here, we explore an isoxazole fragment hit, leading to the discovery of small mPPase inhibitors with 6-10 mu M IC50 values in the Thermotoga maritima test system. Promisingly, the compounds retained activity against Plasmodium falciparum mPPase in membranes and inhibited parasite growth.

The first general palladium-catalyzed alpha-arylation of arylacetonitriles with aryl and heteroaryl sulfonates are reported. Pd(OAc)(2) associated with XPhos serves as the effective catalyst to facilitate this reaction. A broad range of electron-rich, -neutral, -deficient, and sterically hindered aryl/heteroaryl tosylates and mesylates are coupled with arylacetonitriles bearing different substituents to give the corresponding products in good to excellent yields. Catalyst loading down to 0.1 mol-% Pd was achieved, and 22 unprecedented compounds were synthesized from 43 demonstrated examples using this method. Its applicability with the modification of biological phenolic compounds was successfully demonstrated. The Pd/XPhos system catalyzed the alpha-arylation and followed by alkylation in one-pot sequential conditions, resulting in the direct synthesis of compounds containing quaternary center- and deuterium-containing compounds in good to excellent yields.

The reduction of graphene oxide (GO) was examined by using the extracts of different plants; cloves, white mulberry, black cumin seed, blackthorn, dark grape, and rosehip. The reduction efficiency of extracts was confirmed by XRD and spectroscopic analysis. The layered structure of reduced graphene and graphene nanocomposite decorated with palladium nanoparticles (PdNPs) was observed by electron microscopy techniques. This nanocomposite considered to be an active-selective catalyst for hydrogenation of nitroarenes in organic synthesis. This efficient catalyst can provide to develop clean, environmentally friendly, and energy-efficient production routes in industrial organic chemistry. Three new dimeric bis-guanidinate zinc(II) alkyl, halide, and hydride complexes [LZnEt](2) (1), [LZnI](2) (2) and [LZnH](2) (3) were prepared. Here we disclose a simple, visible-light-drivenZ-selective synthesis of methylthio-substituted 1,4-enedione in a single step promoted by Selectfluor. Dimethyl sulfoxide is used as both the ‘thio’ source and the solvent. Molecular iodine and potassium persulfate are used as catalyst and oxidant, respectively. Liver cancer is one of the most important cancers that easily affects many organs in the body. Valproate is a well-known branched fatty acid and is commonly used as an antiepileptic in liver cancer therapy. Similar to many drugs, this chemical drug can induce fulminant liver failure in patients with liver cancer. So, finding new therapeutic agents with fewer side effects is of great attention. This study explains synthesis and characterization of a new effective nanocatalyst ZnO@SiO2-NH2, which can be a suitable candidate for valproate. The prepared nanocatalyst was characterized by FT-IR, TEM, XRD and FE-SEM and formation of the desired nanoparticles with a medium grain size of 70-90 nm is justified. Then, the synthesized nanocatalyst is checked in the multi-component synthesis of some important model drugs involving substituted 2-aminothiophenes, as effective compounds against human liver cancer. The present methodology showed good generality and wide scope, nearly short span of time, good yield, easy workup and environmental friendly conditions for the preparation of the target compounds. At the final part of this study, the in vitro cytotoxicity potential of the prepared nanoparticle is investigated against a well-known human cancer cell line HepG2 via the MTT assay. The experiments reveal that ZnO@SiO2-NH2 nanoparticles have significant cytotoxicity towards the selected cell line. As a result, although ZnO@SiO2-NH2 can be used to treat liver cancer cells, however, this nanoparticle can be utilized to synthesize 2-aminothiophenes, as effective anti-liver cancer drugs like valproate.

The ultraviolet (UV) absorption spectra of the supermolecular system involving silver nanoparticles-substituted N-(phenyl-ethylene)-anilines were investigated. Silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) and 77 kinds of substituted N-(phenyl-ethylene)-anilines ZArC (Me)NArY (ZPEAY, including 40 compounds 2-H-XPEAY without ortho-hydroxyl and 37 compounds 2-OH-XPEAY with ortho-hydroxyl) were prepared. The size of AgNPs was measured with transmission electron microscopy. To study the effect of substituents X and Y on the UV spectra of the supermolecular system of AgNPs-ZPEAY, the authors measured the UV absorption spectra of AgNPs, ZPEAY, and AgNPs-ZPEAY solutions. The experimental results show that (a) the size of AgNPs increases in AgNPs-ZPEAY solution compared with that in AgNPs solution, due to the absorption of ZPEAY molecules on the surface of AgNPs; (b) the UV absorption wavelength of ZPEAY changes in AgNPs-ZPEAY solution and there is a limitation for the wavelength shift (lambda (WSL)) between ZPEAY and AgNPs-ZPEAY system; (c) there is a quantitative correlation between the wavenumber Delta nu (WSL) of lambda (WSL) and the substituent constants (Hammett constant sigma and excited-state substituent constant sigma CCex) of substituents X and Y; (d) the intramolecular hydrogen bonding in 2-OH-XPEAY makes the Delta nu (WSL) a red shift in AgNPs-ZPEAY system.
