Bimetallic nanocatalysts, with efficient and controllable catalytic performance, have a promising application in chemical production. In this study, surface Pt-rich bimetallic AuPt nanoparticles with different Pt/Au ratios were prepared and tested in selective hydrogenation reactions of substituted nitroaromatics. Au nanoparticles were first prepared with n-butyllithium as a rapid reducer, which were further used as seeds in the slow growth process of Pt atoms. Because of the employed sequential reduction method and the following atom diffusion, surface Pt-rich bimetallic AuPt nanoparticles were obtained. Compared with the uniform AuPt alloy nanocatalysts synthesized by the co-reduction method with n-butyllithium as the reducer and monometallic Pt nanocatalysts, the obtained surface Pt-rich AuPt bimetallic nanocatalysts presented an enhanced catalytic selectivity or activity. The performance enhancement is assigned to the optimized Au/Pt interaction in the surface Pt-rich bimetallic nanostructures. This work demonstrates that the optimization of the stoichiometry and construction of bimetallic materials is a feasible method to synthesize controllable and efficient nanocatalysts.

Crystals of (2E)-1-(4-nitrophenyl)-3-(2,3,4-trimethoxyphenyl)prop-2-en-1-one (NPTMP) are grown by slow solvent evaporation technique. The compound purity and presence of functional group elements in the material were identified from the spectroscopic techniques (FT-IR and ?H-NMR). The single-phase formation in the bulk powder crystalline sample has been confirmed from powder XRD analysis. The intermolecular interaction and structure-related parameters were obtained and analyzed by utilizing single-crystal XRD data. Using single-crystal XRD data (CIF file), display of the intermolecular interactions and contribution of H center dot center dot center dot H and H center dot center dot center dot O/O center dot center dot center dot H interaction have been obtained. The molecule is mapped over dnorm, de, di, curvedness, shape index, and electrostatic potential by generating the Hirshfeld’s surface of NPTMP molecule. The linear optical absorbance and optical bandgap of the material have been confirmed by UV-VIS-NIR spectroscopic technique. The thermal stability of the crystal NPTMP is obtained from TGA/DTA/DSC techniques. The surface morphology of the crystal is collected from scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and the electronic contribution of hyperpolarizability parameters is obtained from MOPAC 2016 software. The third-order nonlinear optical properties were studied by the Z-scan technique using CW DPSS laser operating at 532 nm wavelength. The molecule exhibits a comparatively moderate optical limiting response due to reverse saturable absorption (RSA).

Melamine based polymer (MT) was prepared and then reacted with a mixture of glucose (Glu) and beta-cyclodextrin (CD) under hydrothermal conditions to afford, MT/Glu-CD. Then, the adsorption of Pd salt was realized on MT/Glu-CD. The resulting compound was subsequently carbonized to furnish Pd/MT/C that exhibited high catalytic activity for the hydrogenation of nitroarenes in aqueous media. To elucidate the roles of CD, Glu, the molar ratio of Glu:CD and the carbonization in the catalytic activity, several control catalysts have been prepared and their performances for a model hydrogenation reaction were compared with that of Pd/MT/C. The results confirmed the importance of the carbonization as well as the presence of CD for achieving high catalytic activity. Moreover, it was found that the molar ratio of Glu:CD could affect the catalytic activity of the final catalyst and the optimum molar ratio of Glu:CD was 30:70. The recycling test as well as measurement of Pd leaching demonstrated high recyclability and low Pd leaching of Pd/MT/C.

The iron oxide was successfully supported on activated clay/carbon through an experimentally viable protocol for both hydrations of nitrile to amide and reduction of nitro compounds to amines. The as-prepared catalyst has been extensively characterised by XPS, SEM-EDX, TEM, TGA, BET surface area measurements and powdered X-ray diffraction (PXRD). A wide variety of substrates could be converted to the desired products with good to excellent yields by using water as a green solvent for both the reactions. The catalyst was recyclable and reusable up to six consecutive cycles without compromising its catalytic proficiency.

Complex OsH6((PPr3)-Pr-i)(2) is an efficient catalyst precursor for the addition of pinacolborane and catecholborane to the C-N triple bond of alkyl nitrites. In this way, a variety of N,N-diborylamines have been isolated and fully characterized, including 13 derivatives not described so far. The range of nitrites used is wide and comprises substrates having unfunctionalized linear and branched chains, and functionalized chains with methoxide, trifluoromethyl, aryl, pyridyl, benzoyl, or cyanide groups. Kinetic studies demonstrate that the overall process consists of two consecutive irreversible reactions: the catalytic metal-promoted monohydroboration of the nitrile to afford the borylimine and the metal-free stoichiometric hydroboration of the latter to give the diborylamine. The mechanism of the hydroboration has been established by combining the kinetic analysis of the catalysis, stoichiometric reactions, and DFT calculations. The rate-determining step of the catalysis is the insertion of the C-N triple bond of the nitrite into the Os-B bond of an osmium-sigma-borane intermediate and is regiodirected by the nucleophilicity of the nitrogen atom and the electrophilicity of the carbon atom of the nitrite.

A series of novel mono- and binuclear arene-ruthenium(H) complexes [(p-cym)Ru(L)Cl] containing 11H-indeno [1,2-b]quinoxalin-11-one derivatives or tryptanthrin-6-oxime were synthesized and characterized by X-ray crystallography, IR, NMR spectroscopy, cyclic voltammetry, and elemental analysis. Theoretical calculations invoking singlet state geometry optimiza-tion, solvation effects, and noncovalent interactions were done using density functional theory (DFT). DFT calculations were also applied to evaluate the electronic properties, and time-dependent DFT was applied to clarify experimental UV-vis results. Cytotoxicity for cancerous and noncancerous human cell lines was evaluated with cell viability MTT assay. Complexes demonstrated a moderate cytotoxic effect toward cancerous human cell line PANC-1. The catalytic activity of the complexes was evaluated in transfer hydrogenation of aryl ketones. All complexes exhibited good catalytic activity and functional group tolerance.

To improve the interfacial compatibility of mixed matrix membranes (MMMs) for gas separation, microporous polyimide particle (AP) was designed, synthesized, and introduced into intrinsic microporous polyimide matrix (6FDA-Durene) to form all polyimide MMMs. The AP fillers showed the feature of thermal stability, similar density with polyimide matrix, high porosity, high fractional free volume, large microporous dimension, and interpenetrating network architecture. As expected, the excellent interfacial compatibility between 6FDA-Durene and AP without obvious agglomeration even at a high AP loading of 10 wt.% was observed. As a result, the CO2 permeability coefficient of MMM with AP loading as low as 5 wt.% reaches up to 1291.13 Barrer, which is 2.58 times that of the pristine 6FDA-Durene membrane without the significant sacrificing of ideal selectivity of CO2/CH4. The improvement of permeability properties is much better than that of the previously reported MMMs, where high filler content is required to achieve a high permeability increase but usually leads to significant agglomeration or phase separation of fillers. It is believed that the excellent interfacial compatibility between the PI fillers and the PI matrix induce the effective utilization of porosity and free volume of AP fillers during gas transport. Thus, a higher diffusion coefficient of MMMs has been observed than that of the pristine PI membrane. Furthermore, the rigid polyimide fillers also result in the excellent anti-plasticization ability for CO2. The MMMs with a 10 wt.% AP loading shows a CO2 plasticization pressure of 300 psi.

We have prepared 15 hybrid pyrazole, pyrazoline-clubbed pyridine-containing compounds (5a-o) and tested for their antibacterial and antifungal activities for the development of potential antimicrobial agents. The structures of this novel series were characterized by various spectral techniques like IR, H-1 NMR, C-13 NMR, LC-MS, and elemental analysis. The synthesized compounds 5d, 5e, 5i, 5k, 5m, and 5o exhibited significant antimicrobial activity in the comparison of standard drugs. The increasing global demands for eco-friendly and low-cost catalysts have propelled the advent of nanosized non-noble-metal catalysts to replace traditional noble metals. In this work, ultrafine NiO nanoparticles were prepared rapidly in situ by the strategy of transforming three-dimensional (3D) metal boron organic polymers (BOPs@Ni2+) to one-dimensional (1D) boron organic polymers (BOPs@Ni) nanorod arrays at room temperature. The 3D BOPs@Ni2+ can be quickly obtained by the interaction of 4,4′-bipyridine with Ni2+ and dodecaborate (B12H122-) in an aqueous solution. When Ni2+ is converted into NiO in situ, 1D BOPs@Ni nanostructure transformation from the 3D BOPs@Ni2+ framework was achieved due to the B-H center dot center dot center dot pi interaction between B12H122- and 4,4′-bipyridine. Furthermore, BOPs@Ni exhibits high catalytic activity and rapid kinetics in the conversion of 4-nitrophenol to 4-aminophenol, and the high stability of 1D nanorod arrays guarantees the catalytic activity of BOP@Ni to barely change under recycling for at least 10 times. BOPs@Ni also exhibits good catalytic performance and high selectivity characteristics in the catalytic reduction of a series of nitrobenzene derivatives. This strategy of using BOPs@Ni2+ for loading self-supporting nanometal not only exhibits a highly efficient catalytic hydrogenation of nitrobenzene and its derivative but also provides an effective technical route for designing self-supported nanometal materials.

Efficient and mild reaction conditions for Wacker-type oxidation of terminal olefins of less explored homoallyl alcohols to beta-hydroxy-methyl ketones have been developed by using a Pd(ii) catalyst and MnO(2)as a co-oxidant. The method involves mild reaction conditions and shows good functional group compatibility along with high regio- and chemoselectivity. While our earlier system of PdCl2/CrO3/HCl produced alpha,beta-unsaturated ketones from homoallyl alcohols, the present method provided orthogonally the beta-hydroxy-methyl ketones. No overoxidation or elimination of benzylic and/or beta-hydroxy groups was observed. The method could be extended to the oxidation of simple terminal olefins as well, to methyl ketones, displaying its versatility. An application to the regioselective synthesis of gingerol is demonstrated.
