In attempt to take advantages of naturally occurring compounds for the catalysis, a novel composite composed of beta-cyclodextrin, dendrimer and bentonite clay is fabricated and utilized as a support for the stabilization of Pd nanoparticles. To prepare the support, bentonite is amino functionalized and then successively reacted with 2,4,6-trichloro-1,3,5-triazine and ethylenediamine to furnish a dendrimer of generation II on bentonite. Afterwards, the terminal functionalities of the dendrimer were adorned with cyclodextrin. Bentonite played role in the hetemgenation of the catalyst and improvement of the stability of the composite while, cyclodextrins served as molecular shuttles and capping agent for the as-prepared Pd nanoparticles. Dendrimer with multi nitrogen atoms, on the other hand, improved Pd anchoring through electrostatic interactions. The catalyst was applied for the hydrogenation of nitmarenes under mild reaction condition in aqueous media in a selective manner. Notably, the catalyst could be recovered and reused repeatedly.

A synergistic gold-iron (Au-Fe) catalytic system was developed for sequential alkyne hydration and vinyl Au addition to aldehydes or ketones. Fe(acac)(3) was identified as an essential co-catalyst in preventing vinyl Au protodeauration and facilitating nucleophilic additions. Effective C-C bond formation was achieved under mild conditions (room temperature) with excellent regioselectivity and high efficiency (1% [Au], up to 95% yields). The intramolecular reaction was also achieved, giving successful macrocyclization (16-31 ring sizes) with excellent yields (up to 90%, gram scale) without extended dilution (0.2 M), which highlights the great potential of this new crossed aldol strategy in challenging target molecule synthesis.

We demonstrate a method to boost the photocatalysis of titania by constructing a core-shell structure. The crucial technique is to capsulate the titania nanoparticles by a sheath of nitrogen-doped carbon (TiO2@N-AC) with a thickness at 3.5-7.5 nm, which creates an exceptional effect to accelerate the catalytic hydrogenation of substituted nitroarenes with isopropanol as the hydrogen source under ultraviolet or visible-light irradiation. In the catalytic hydrogenation of various nitroarenes with substituted groups of -Cl, -F, -C-C, -C-O, and -C=N, TiO2@N-AC exhibits high conversions and selectivities to the corresponding functionalized anilines, even outperforming the catalysts containing noble metals. Mechanism study demonstrates that the TiO2@N-AC catalyst benefits the selective adsorption of the nitro group rather than other substituted groups, which efficiently avoids the undesirable side reactions. Importantly, the catalyst is stable and exhibits constant performances in the continuous recycling tests.

Herein, we describe the formation of quaternary carbon centers with excellent diastereoselectivity via a strain-release protocol. An organometallic species is generated by Cp*Rh(III)-catalyzed C-H activation, which is then coupled with strained bicyclobutanes (BCBs) and a prochiral carbon electrophile in a three-component reaction. This work illustrates a rare example of BCBs in transition metal catalysis and demonstrates their broad potential to access novel reaction pathways. The method developed exhibits ample functional group tolerance, and the products can be further transformed into valuable alpha-quaternary beta-lactones. Preliminary mechanistic investigations suggest a twofold C-C bond cleavage sequence involving sigma-bond insertion and an ensuing beta-carbon elimination event.

An efficient Ni(ClO4)(2)center dot 6H(2)O-promoted amidoalkylation re-action for the synthesis of 3-substituted isoindolinones involving various gamma-hydroxy lactams and nucleophiles has been successfully developed. The transformation proceeds with both carbon (ketones and arenes) and heteroatom (alcohols, thiols, and amines) nucleophiles and in both intermolecular and intramolecular manners. The prominent features of the present strategy are wide substrate scope, excellent group tolerability, and moderate to good yields (up to 96% yield). The present strategy is also characterized by remarkable superiority over the current synthetic methods. Furthermore, the reaction could be scaled up to the multigram scale.

Liver cancer is one of the most important cancers that easily affects many organs in the body. Valproate is a well-known branched fatty acid and is commonly used as an antiepileptic in liver cancer therapy. Similar to many drugs, this chemical drug can induce fulminant liver failure in patients with liver cancer. So, finding new therapeutic agents with fewer side effects is of great attention. This study explains synthesis and characterization of a new effective nanocatalyst ZnO@SiO2-NH2, which can be a suitable candidate for valproate. The prepared nanocatalyst was characterized by FT-IR, TEM, XRD and FE-SEM and formation of the desired nanoparticles with a medium grain size of 70-90 nm is justified. Then, the synthesized nanocatalyst is checked in the multi-component synthesis of some important model drugs involving substituted 2-aminothiophenes, as effective compounds against human liver cancer. The present methodology showed good generality and wide scope, nearly short span of time, good yield, easy workup and environmental friendly conditions for the preparation of the target compounds. At the final part of this study, the in vitro cytotoxicity potential of the prepared nanoparticle is investigated against a well-known human cancer cell line HepG2 via the MTT assay. The experiments reveal that ZnO@SiO2-NH2 nanoparticles have significant cytotoxicity towards the selected cell line. As a result, although ZnO@SiO2-NH2 can be used to treat liver cancer cells, however, this nanoparticle can be utilized to synthesize 2-aminothiophenes, as effective anti-liver cancer drugs like valproate.

The applications of a new supported tribromide reagent based on poly(vinylbenzyltrimethylammonium hydroxide) resin (Amberlite 717) were reported. This supported tribromide resin was used directly in alpha-bromination and alpha-bromoacetalization of acetophenones without any other catalyst under mild conditions. The effects of solvents and the amount of the supported tribromide resin on the reactions were investigated. The extensive use of antimicrobial drugs and their resistance against bacterial infections have led to discover new antimicrobial compounds. In this study, we wish to report, one-pot synthesis of 2-amino-3-cyanopyridine derivatives (1a-14a). These compounds were synthesized in the presence of Cu(OAc)(2) as a highly effective heterogeneous acid catalyst. Here we evaluated the antimicrobial activities of these compounds against different species of microorganisms including gram positive and gram negative bacteria as well as fungi. Standard antimicrobial methods include disc diffusion and Broth microdilution method according to the protocol of the Clinical and Laboratory Standards Institute (CLSI). Synthesis of 2-amino-3-cyanopyridine derivatives were done via reaction of aromatic aldehydes, acetophenone derivatives, malononitrile and ammonium acetate in the presence of Cu(OAc)(2) under reflux condition. The results show compound 2-amino-6-(4-chlorophenyl)-4-phenylnicotinonitrile (10a) had the best antimicrobial efficacy toward C. albicans, E. faecalis, P. aeroginosa and E. coli. In conclusion, comparing the structure and activity of the compounds (10a), this compound with the presence of Cl residue atpara-position of phenyl ring improves the antibacterial and antifungal activity.

Hollow magnetic nanoparticles (MNPs) with tetrahedral morphology were synthesized and then covered by a shell prepared by coating with melamine-formaldehyde followed by the introduction of glucose-derived carbon. Subsequently, Pd nanoparticles were immobilized and the core-shell nanocomposite was carbonized. The obtained magnetic catalyst was successfully applied for the hydrogenation of nitroarenes in aqueous media. To investigate the effects of the morphology of MNPs, the nature of carbon shell, and the order of incorporation of Pd nanoparticles, several control catalysts, including the MNPs with different morphologies (disc-like and cylinder); MNPs coated with different shells (sole glucose-derived carbon or melamine-formaldehyde carbon shell); and a nanocomposite, in which Pd was immobilized after carbonization, were prepared and examined as catalyst for the model reaction. To justify the observed different catalytic activities of the catalysts, their Pd loadings, leaching, and specific surface areas were compared. The results confirmed that tetrahedral MNPs coated with porous N-rich carbon shell exhibited the best catalytic activity. The high catalytic activity of this catalyst was attributed to its high surface area and the interaction of N-rich shell with Pd nanoparticles that led to the higher Pd loading and suppressed Pd leaching.

This inexpensive main group catalysis strategy employs p-TolI as an effective organocatalyst when combined with Selectfluor (R) and simple amine center dot HF complexes. Modulating Bronsted acidity enables simultaneous geminal and vicinal difluorination to occur, thereby providing a platform to generate multiply fluorinated scaffolds for further downstream derivatization.
