Hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) can be produced in mitochondria and plays a significant role in physiological metabolism. Overproduction of H2O2 is a hallmark of many diseases. Therefore, it is very important to develop a highly sensitive method for detecting H2O2 both in vivo and in vitro. Previously reported benzil-based fluorescence probes are superior to those based on boronate ester in terms of reaction selectivity. However, the near infrared (NIR) probe with biocompatibility has been rarely reported for the detection of endogenous hydrogen peroxide and the real-time imaging in biological system. Hemicyanine skeleton has been proven to be effective scaffold for NM fluorescent probes for non-invasive optical imaging in vivo. In this paper, a Cy-H2O2 probe for real-time monitoring hydrogen peroxide in organisms was designed by modifying the NIR hemicyanine framework with benzil moiety. The results showed that Cy-H2O2 exhibits high specificity and sensitivity, and has good water solubility and short response time (within 10 min) for detection of hydrogen peroxide in vitro and in vivo. The reaction mechanism was deduced by detecting product of the fluorescent probe reacting with hydrogen peroxide using HPLC. The probe shows a good linear relationship for the specific response to H2O2 within the concentration range of 0-7 mu M and the detection limit is 65 nM. In addition, the probe Cy-H2O2 has been successfully applied to H2O2 detection in living cells and zebrafish.

The chalcone isatin precursors 9a-i required for the click reaction were obtained from the reaction of N-alkylazidoisatin 4 and propargyloxy chalcone 8a-i which in turn were obtained by the aldol condensation of propargyloxy salicylaldehyde 6 and substituted methyl ketones 7a-i. The regio- and stereochemical outcome of the cycloadducts were assigned based on 2D NMR and confirmed by single crystal XRD analysis. High efficiency, mild reaction conditions, high regio- and stereoselectivity, atom economy and operational simplicity are the exemplary advantages of the employed macrocyclization procedure.

The reduction of nitroaromatic compounds to anilines is widely used throughout organic synthesis. Typical methods of performing this transformation utilize hydrogenation over a pyrophoric catalyst or a finely divided reducing metal, which often affords heterogeneous mixtures that are difficult to purify. Herein, we report for the first time the use of gallium metal as a reducing agent in organic synthesis. The reaction proceeds under aerobic conditions and affords homogeneous mixtures for a convenient workup. Using this method, twelve anilines were obtained in 33% to quantitative yields with short reaction times of 10-60 minutes.

In this research, a novel, biodegradable and environmentally friendly catalyst composed of nickel nanoparticles supported on DNA was prepared and fully characterized by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, high resolution transmission electron microscopy, energy-dispersive X-ray analysis, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, UV-vis spectroscopy, inductively coupled plasma optical emission spectroscopy, and elemental analysis. The catalyst exhibited remarkable catalytic activity and chemoselectivity for the reduction of various substituted nitroarenes with sodium borohydride (NaBH4) as the source of inexpensive hydride in water at room temperature. High turnover frequency and selectivity were observed for the reduction of all tested substrates. Interestingly, the catalyst could be recovered conveniently for multiple recycling reactions with sustained activity. The highly active Ni/Cu bimetallic nanoparticles (NPs) of the different molar ratios of Ni and Cu (1:1, 1:3, 3:1) assisted by dendritic ligand 2,4,6-Tris (di-4-chlorobenzamido)-1,3-diazine were synthesized successfully confirmed by Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM), Electron Diffraction X-ray (EDX), X-ray fluorescence spectroscopy (XRF), X-ray diffraction (XRD), and Transmission Electron Microscopy (TEM) analysis. These NPs were studied as a heterogeneous catalyst for the chemoselective oxidation of alcohol to the corresponding aldehyde at 30 min and chemoselective reduction of aromatic nitro substituents to the corresponding amino substituents at 20 min, while the Ni/Cu (3:1) NPs were found to be the most effective among other Ni/Cu (1:1) and Ni/Cu (1:3) NPs at room temperature under mild conditions. The Ni/Cu (3:1) NPs can be recycled for at least five successive runs with no perceptible decrease in catalytic activity. Graphic abstract
